Lawyers to embattled R&B singer, R.Kelly, have demanded that he be released immediately after being attacked by another inmate at the Chicago Metropolitan Correctional Centre (MCC) where he’s been held awating trial.
52 year-old R.Kelly was said to have been attacked by a fellow inmate as he lay on his bed. The attack was said to be caused by the governor’s ban on visitors, which have seen many R.Kelly fans protest outside the prison walls.
His lawyers have subsequently called for his release, saying they have not been provided with details on the incident and possible sustained any injuries as a result.
“Yesterday we were told that an inmate had attacked R.Kelly at the MCC in Chicago. We received conflicting reports as to the extent of his injuries. We have not been provided any information from the jail, nor has Mr. Kelly called. We are hopeful that he was not seriously injured, ” wrote Steve Greenberg.
R.Kelly has spent more than a year in jail while waiting to be tried for several counts of sexual assualt and sexual trafficking and has been denied bail three (3) times.
