African Giant, Burna Boy’s 5th studio album needed just short of 48 hours to start smashing records but it is far from done as ‘Twice As Tall’ makes history in the US
Universally-acclaimed ‘Twice as Tall’ described by many as the Album of the Year by a mile and deservedly so, showing an impact never seen by any African album in history. An impact felt both locally and across the borders.
A week after its official release, Burna Boy’s ‘Twice as Tall’ had already impacted the UK Official Charts and the French Official album chart, debuting on both at #11 and #29 — both record breakers for the highest charting African album of all-time on each respective chart.
The Billboard charts is one of the most sought-after chart as it emphasises its rankings and charts based on online and on-demand activity in the United States, in other words, the US Official charts -and of course, our very own African Giant did not fail to represent.
‘Twice as Tall‘ debuted at #54 on this week’s #Billboard200, selling about 5,000 album units in the US with 2,000 of them being pure sales. ‘Twice as Tall‘ becomes the highest ever ranking album by an African act on the #Billboard200, surpassing the 2007 album ‘Djin Djin‘ by legendary Beninese singer/songwriter Angelique Kidjo which peaked at #58.
If you still doubted the impact Burna Boy has had on the world with the release of this incredible album, your doubts are about to be wiped clean.
The World Albums chart was also impacted by #TwiceAsTall. The Billboard World Albums chart which ranks based on interaction and impact of albums from around the globe ranks Burna Boy’s ‘Twice As Tall’ at #1.
This also leaves a foot-mark in the history books as ‘Twice As Tall‘ becomes the highest peaking Nigerian album of all-time, surpassing Wizkid’s third studio album “Sounds From The Other Side“. It also becomes only the fourth African album to peak at #1 (The first three being albums from Angelique Kidjo – “Logozo”, “Djin Djin” and “Eve” – In chronological order).
African Giant, Burna Boy has taken a massively historic step in taking African Music back to where it belongs – On top of the World. While the entire Africa enjoys the smooth cruise, while Damini ‘Burna Boy’ Ogulu is the multi-talented and powerful Driver.
