“Scrap bride price culture!..Women are not properties to be and sold” – Actress Toni Tones

Nollywood actress, Toni Tones has lended her voice on the controversy surrounding the “bride price” culture which is predominant in Africa.

 

In a tweet she shared, the actress called for the abolition of bride price because women are not to be sold.

I’m in support. There should be nothing like bride price. Imagine all the stories we hear of husbands going to return the money/bride price when they are tired of their wives. What’s that supposed to mean? That you can buy and return when you no longer want the service? It’s not even as if there’s a guarantee of something, and guarantee or not, it’s still demeaning. It’s a culture, but cultures can be abolished because cultures are for the people and not the other way. If cultures couldn’t be abolished, we’d still be killing twins
