The market space is crowded.

Every entrepreneur hopes to maximise profits but only those that differentiate themselves from others can effectively compete for the limited resources in the hands of the consumers.

Your brand is what makes you unique. That name or niche by which you are identified. It gives you the business personality and announces you to the world. Branding is a technique used by businesses to create a desired image for a product or company in the minds of consumers. It could take the form of a logo, slogan or a story.

To create a distinct brand for your small or medium enterprise you need to;

  1. Know your audience.
  2. Know yourself.
  3. Communicate effectively.
  4. Design to impress.
  5. Be consistent.

Knowing your audience requires  developing a relationship with your customers. Your brand must not be just a logo. It should tailor itself to the need of the customers. Create a niche that shows you know what they want and how they feel.

The passion and purpose behind your company, the values you offer and what you aim to achieve is your story and your driving force. You must let these ideas reflect in your everyday business. Knowing yourself and purpose might not be so easy to identify. A mission statement summarizes this and keeps it at the forefront of your mind.

An effective communication should be clear. Show authority and follow through with responsibility. Treat all with equal respect and honesty. This creates relationship, a sense of trust and dependability among customers. It opens the business up for referrals.
